The Little Desenazno Girl's Castle

Today I had the pleasure of running into one of my Italian girlfriends from Desenzano.
Desenzano del Garda. You can see the castle at the top.

She was on her way to pick up her little rascal from pre-school. Today was a gorgeous day with temperatures around 63 degrees F and so different from just two weeks ago when we were all under house arrest from the cold. We got to the day care and I could hear the animated voices of the little ones getting ready to eat lunch. The teacher popped her head around the corner and brought the little curly headed angel to her mom. She was wearing a pink frock and I forgot that little ones wear a pink or blue cotton coat over their clothes while they are at school. She was beaming and not too sure what her mom's friend was doing here. We were going to head down one path by the castle of Desenzano but the little one insisted on going to say hi to her friend, a puppy who lived next to the castle. After a minute of negotiating she won and off we went to see the pup. As we walked next to the castle wall she quietly asked, "Sai perche il castello ha buchi nel muro? (Do you know why the castle has holes in the wall?)" I knew it was for war but wasn't sure what this little 4 year-old with a giant smile knew. She reached her tiny hand to take mine, swang it energetically and then she informed me with her small quiet voice, "E per sparare le frecce e proteggere il re e la reginaIl re e la regina è rimasta dentro per cercare rifugio. (The holes are to shoot arrows to protect the king and queen. The king and queen remained inside to seek refuge)" Well, what do you know. She was very proud of her castle of Desenzano and volunteered to climb up the hill to get a picture next to her castle. Her mom is a beautiful and very smart lady and I'm sure she has passed on lots of cool facts to her little one. I got permission from her mamma to put her child's picture on my blog.

We then made our way around the castle, past the chickens clucking by the castle to the little yellow house that has a little dog just the right size for the little girl. How cute.
Amici

It has been a long time since I have been around any mini-people and the effect of conversing with a little one is very relaxing and sweet. It is facinating to see how this little person is so small, fragile and so full of intelligence and will to learn. Her little sister is only 8ish months old and shows a great talent at eating very clean. Nothing falls on the floor, everything goes in. Today, I really enjoyed my my friend and her little girl and am so glad to know them.
