A Visit from a Fairy: Merryweather

The chilly wind of spring crept into my kitchen and whispered: "Merryweather is coming!"

The trees rustled and uttered, "Merryweather is coming." As I drove to work and passed a family of deers they looked cheerfully and I knew what they were saying, "Merryweather is coming!" The little ducks waddled, they are some of Merryweather's favorites.

Who is Merryweather? The little chipper and feisty fairy who raised me in her little house, with her little orange juice cups, a hop in her step and who is friends with all the deer, flowers and picnic sites.
Merryweather's hut full of Reader's Digest, Vapor Rub and grilled cheese sandwhiches.

When I got home I perked up, looked at El Gordo and told him that his favorite person in the world is coming. He is deeply in love with Merryweather She is a small round little woman with abundantly curly hair, can flutter about with the best of fairies, and has a little magic way of making bad days and horrible situations disappear with her consistent cheeriness. She believes that prayer and a hamburger can fix just about any problem, and she is probably right.

Though when she is gloomy she can also cast a spell that hushes everyone right up.

Merryweather enjoys having help for housekeeping and cooking.

She would have loved to learn to sew, but patience with fabric has never been her forte. She would rather turn a good piece of fabric into a head scarf to shoo away a headache.

She is a very special fairy, knowing all the best bathrooms in Alaska, Mexico, Texas, Germany, the Swiss Alps and French Alps. Other fairies know they can count on her if they find themselves in a pinch! She knows just the place to go. Merryweather is bubbly and sometimes finds herself in pickles but turns them into...well sweet pickles. We haven't had a visit from her yet so are happy and excited. To get ready we:

1. Cleaned the cats ears. Kitties must be clean and very well behaved during Merryweather's visit. A good fairy likes a nice clean cat that doesn't scratch his ears too much. But she despises a cat who is constantly scratching.

2. We bought way too many muffins at the Costco...I went in with the hunger of sumo wrestler and loaded the cart with muffins thinking "She will love them and I am being very sensible." I only realized, after inhaling a slice of pizza, that 24 muffins, 24 croissants and two boxes of pastries was a bit overkill...maybe she doesn't want a muffin a day.
"Give me the muffin or else!"

3.We made a little bed for the little fairy. It has my favorite blanket and I hope it keeps her toasty at night.

4. We planned the places a good fairy should visit while in NJ and NYC. I think they are appropriate for a nice little fairy who likes animals, nature, cheesecake and burgers. Though not exactly in that order.

So we are ready for her arrival! The only impediment to her comfortable stay might be the small skunk who has made a nice little bed in the garage...

A little bird is on his way to pick up her tiny suitcase, have her climb onto his back, cover her with feathers for warmth and fly her over Texas, Louisiana, the Appalachians until the bird sees the lights of NYC and the smog of New Jersey. Then, the little bird is advised to start using the F word profusely as he flies among Jersey birds and makes his descent into landing. And please, little bird, make the landing smooth. Merryweather screams on bumpy landings.
