Lent: Distraction

Here we are on the second day of lent.

This is a time to grow closer to God through: prayer, cutting back materially to gain more spiritually, and increase in charity to others. How is day two going for you?

I think one of the enemies of good lenten intentions is this: Distraction

Feel like you've been distracted by anything yet? Join the club! I feel, and perhaps it is just my observation, that this lent will be especially hard because of distractions from our emotions. There will be situations, family members, politics, and the corona-virus to take any of our lenten intentions and throw a wrench in our attention.

Yesterday and today have been obviously days of distraction through people who have had honest emergencies and not so honest emergencies. It is as if word got out that it is the season of Lent and  Perhaps it is a challenge to remain focused on Christ, and stay rooted in the memory of the moments we've had quietly praying and asking God for His love and grace in helping us with our Lent.

Keep at your Lenten walk. When you are tempted by a distraction to cave into any temptation ask our Holy Mother to be with you, ask your guardian angel to protect you, and for the Holy Spirit to come. They will swoop down and help. Ask God for the grace to hold firm and walk with you through Lent, because we can't do it on our own.
