Spoltore and Mountain Town Cats

Today we went to a gorgeous town in the Abruzzo mountains called Spoltore. I was under the impression that Citta Sant'Angelo had the best views: both of the sea and mountains.

However, I would argue that Spoltore has equally beautiful views thanks to the architecture of the town.

If you climb to the top of the town and look down any of the dozen of narrow streets your eyes will feast upon the rolling hills of Abruzzo peppered with stone houses, churches and fields of olive trees and vines.
I adore the kelly green color of the fields.

An abandoned cliff side palace. Spooky and romantic.

As you gaze the first thing to see will be the entrances to the houses with the pots full of flowers, herbs and plants.

One of my favorite pictures.

Can you see the view from here? Breathtaking, isn't it?

High five!

Even the graveyard looks pretty from up here.

I can't get enough of pink houses. I should make a collection of pink house pictures.

A saint painting was in that little nook for hundreds of years facing out of the town down the hill to protect the town.

Bed and breakfast FYI if you want a place to stay in this cute town.

I think Spoltore is just lovely. Another thing that I really liked about it was that like Citta Sant'Angelo they have a lot of cats. Cats in Abruzzo and any small town in Italy are really necessary for keeping the streets clear of mice.
Spoltore is cat friendly. It totally adds a cool vibe to the town.

mid morning nap time.

The mountain towns are in a difficult geographic spot to have regular pest control come and spread pesticides that are harmful for people and house pets. The disease ridden rats and mice are also attracted to these mountain towns to hide in during the winter. They run from the fields up the side of the mountain and if they don't meet a fat mountain town cat they will meet your garbage, eat like it's Thanksgiving and then make babies. So cats are essential for the well being of all people in the mountain towns.

I also happen to think that all nice people who are not allergic to cats or travel regularly should have a cat or two. Cats are excellent protectors of the home, their predator scent keeps mice away. I don't think mean loud  people should have cats though, they don't deserve  to have cats. Mean loud people more than likely deserve to have their garbage attacked by mice, raccoons and wild boars. I think that should be law, actually enforced in all the world: if you are mean you can't have a cat.
