No. 8

Today I am thankful for my...

What do you call a lady cave? Men have "man caves" to hide in so do the girls have "lady caves"? Stop laughing already. I can think of a few names. I just finished re-setting up my home office / sewing / inspiration and creativity room and was contemplating what to call it. The Chef has his  serious office and won't deign to call it a "man cave", would rather call it a "cave man", he really should call it the "Brain Depot" seeing that he tinkers with human brains. However, my little office needs a name. I like Lady Cave but it sounds almost offensive to the feminine species, although I think some of my feminist buddies would like the name. I realize I am the "lady of the house" but my own creative room where I am free to explore words and ideas and create things deserves a proper name.

In this room, things are starting to get to where they need to be: cat on the side of computer, books on shelves, awesome ironing board and incredible vacuum in here too. There are few things I appreciate more than German-made cleaning supplies. They are like domestic trophies so having them in my "lady cave" is just fine by me.

Here are a few names for my new room:

1. Lady Cave, it is growing on me
2. The Studio...yawn maybe not
3. The Library...nah...I'm already a librarian
4. The Mezzanine. I almost like that!
5.  Mind Pod. Kind of awesome but it will go out of style.

Or I could name it after favorite places in books or authors:

1. Towered Camelot. It is where the Lady of Shalott had to weave without leaving her room or a curse would come and she would die. She fell in love with Sir Lancelot, took a chance and left then died. Lancelot never noticed her love. Typical. Never mind. Scratch that one.

2. Pemberley! This is where Jane and Mr. Darcy finally fall in love!

3. Thornfield Hall. This is where Jane Eyre goes to work and her love and employer hides his foreign wife in the attic telling everyone that she died when in fact she is alive and insanely furious and finally burns the house down! Never mind on that one either.

4. Red Cloud. He was such an inspirational Sioux warrior. I actually like that one.

5. On the note of native names I am thinking of Chief Seattle who said we can never really own anything. He theorized that the more humans try to own the more they enslave themselves to possessions. Perhaps I should name it "Morning Sun" because the room is flooded with morning sunshine giving the trees life, me energy and the room joy. I like it! It really hippie and west coasty granola crunchy to call it "the Morning Sun" but I like it! Yet it sounds like an outdated newspaper that went bankrupt.

In conclusion I will name my Lady Cave the Red Cloud. It just makes sense to me and if I get tired of it I will change the name. Did you know that the Lakota Indians changed their names if they felt like it? One day you could be called Smelly Foot and the next day you could be called He Who Listens. I think Fatty must be Lakota. His name changes almost daily. Today he was Hungry Rhino. Anyway, enough for tonight. I get silly after cleaning and decorating too much and need some sleep.
