Monet in in the Sky

The trees this time of year are nothing short of magical.

They are moody and match colors with everything around them: yellow like school buses, red like the brick townhouses, brown like the country horses and orange like the pumpkins.

I don't like NJ, or NJ weather but I absolutely like the fall here. October through the first two weeks of November are like walking through a watercolor painting that is slowly changing colors. The other thing that amazes me is how quickly one can go from the mess of Manhattan spilling into NJ to the country and cows and beautiful trees. This change is only about 10 minutes one from another. This weekend the weather was sunny and warm enough to walk in. It is that New England warmth that lasts only about three weeks before you get the first real winter storm and then you know you  must hibernate for the next few months into the beginning of May. We have our hibernation plan more or less organized: I will knit and eat more veggies during blizzard days and he will eat more cheese and impersonate opera singers.

Anyway, I really want to show you pictures of the trees because they are nothing less than fantastic. These trees beat watching my favorite movie, beat reading "Pride and Prejudice" and even beat taking a nap with the cats on a sunny day. On Friday night we planned our weekend walks by talking it over a nice steak at Arthur's. I had just finished a course on ESL in 4 months where it should have taken me 7 months and passed with flying colors. So a steak was definitely in order. My wobbly teeth still going through their treatment with Invisalign braces were not up to the task of gnawing through an entire steak, so I had enough left overs for a very scrumptious lunch the next day.

On Saturday we went to a nearby park looking for horses, didn't find any, but saw these amazing trees.
I want to live here with two horses called Muffin and Puffin.

a burbling brook
Just the kind of brook that whispers secrets and dreams.

Perfect day for a bike ride

What does this look like? I will name this tree "The Dinner Party"

This tree is called "Interior Scroll"

I spent the day going around with an adventurous photographer who eventually abandoned me to go stomping through the roughage and got quite muddy as a result.

He is a professional photographer, can't you see?

It's bow hunting season. Watch out on Wednesday's because you will be in God's country...

Feeling very short next to the big big tree

Brightness in the woods

Little gnomes get married under those two trees.

On Sunday we went to Freilinghuysen Arboretum and were impressed with the amazing grounds and the variety of trees on the estate. There were pine trees from every part of the globe and deciduous trees as well. The colors of the trees were just incredible to soak in. There were at least 10 shades of color in every direction you looked.

How many colors do you see?

The transformation. This is how I wake up: feeling green and getting color in me after some coffee.

Mama, these tiny pine cones are for you.

A romantic roof and perfect place to hide and kiss

Can I shrink and be a little bird in there for just one day?

All in all, autumn in New Jersey is breathtaking and magical.
