Roasted Chicken Sundays

Today the temperature dropped about 30 degrees, requiring a sweater, pants and umbrella. Since the weather was mild we decided to drive out in the country and check out a new church in a rural and beautiful area.

We left motivated, encountered traffic and finally arrived to the little church just to discover that it was packed out.

Apparently other nice husbands had the same idea to take their families to nice country churches on a rainy day. There were people standing out of the door in the rain stretching to hear a few words from the priest. We decided it was better to venture back into town so we could sit in the church. Thankfully, masses here start at different times. Some at 8, others at 10, 10:15, 11, 11:15, and 11:30. It is a bit confusing to remember which church starts at what time. Anyway, we drove back to Desenzano (next to Rivoltella) and spent a hearty half hour driving in the same parking lot circle waiting for a spot. July in this area is thick with tourists.

After mass we were hungry from the rain and realizing there was nothing in the fridge decided it was a perfect time to grab a roasted chicken from the grocery store. Apparently it was the "go to the country church and get a roasted chicken" day. A line of 10 hungry people were angrily waiting for the roasted chickens to finish cooking. Maybe they were the same people who were at the country church?

We got in line, and after waiting a while thought the crowd seemed more hungrily aggressive and the moment of unleashing the roasted chickens could result in some of the more determined ladies barreling down like rugby players. We finally did get a chicken and made it home in one piece....but our chicken didn't stay in one piece for long.

Having a relaxing Sunday is more effort than it seems, especially for chickens.
