Freedom Tower NYC

The USA just celebrated a national holiday but only a few elite knew about it: my birthday. Yes, it is a holiday! Prince Charming and I started the day by sitting in the tower of my castle and watching a parade and jousting below. A special hairdresser came to do our hair:

Braid du jour for moi.

Prince Charming's curls were super curly to celebrate!

Oh the commoners, how funny they are!

Seriously though, I was treated like nothing less than a queen. The Chef wanted to take me to the best place he could think of and he did just that. We went to the newly opened Freedom Tower (World Trade building #1) which just opened a few months ago on the south side of Manhattan.
The tallest building in the western hemisphere.

Unlike the Empire State building where you stand in line for hours on end, the Freedom Tower gives you an appointment for your trip to the top.  We had ours at 6:45 PM: right at sunset. During the day we ate way too much delicious junk food and hung out at a sports bar in the Finance District watching baseball. I could think of no better way to hang out with my favorite person on  my favorite day.
Bending our heads back to look up to the tip top of the Freedom Tower. Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!

As the sun set, we headed to the Freedom Tower and took a walk with our group to the foundation of the building. They had incredible films on the walls where they show cased interviews with the construction workers of the building. It showed scenes of the rain, wind and snow during construction. I can't imagine being one of the builders and seeing the remains of the two World Trade towers below.

Going into the Freedom Tower was incredible. There is pride, beauty and joy in there and it feels glamorous like NYC should.

The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking.

We watched the sun set over Hoboken, New Jersey and saw the buildings shadows stretch over the Hudson River.

Going

Going

Gone

In the distance Lady Liberty was holding her torch high still welcoming immigrants from all over the world.

To the north was the great city of NY and the Empire State building shining like a diamond with pictures of endangered animals, in honor of Cecil the Lion.

As the night grew steady we saw the moon, red and full grow over Brooklyn to the East.

All in all, it was the best birthday ever. And you know what they say? The more birthdays you have, the longer you live.
