Caribella's Baby Cow

Gelato season has started, the heat index is soaring, and people (both women and men) are displaying alarming amounts of skin...sometimes its gross. This blog should focus on my first summer gelato, however a much more important thing is on my mind. It all starts on a little farm not to far from where I live.
Herb garden next to the house

There are three cows, all female, one has a 2 month old baby:
The baby's name is Burro, or Butter

One is pregnant:
This gentle faced heifer is due next week! Wait for baby pictures! See that side? There is a cow in there!

And the other was due for delivery last week. On Thursday evening the quiet sullen farmer took Caribella out for a walk in the pasture knowing that she could give birth at any time. She felt a little kick on her side, chewed some grass thoughtfully and wandered under the shade of a large tree.
Within a few hours puddle ducks were quacking
"A baby was born!"

 Pigs snorting with glee
"A baby was born!"

and the horse neighing the news: a stork had brought a baby cow!
Woo-hoo! Baby cow on the horizon!

Ok, maybe not the stork, but Caribella delivered alone without the assistance of a vet a little baby girl cow right on the pasture. The baby cow is adorable, all sweetness with dreamy little eyes and soft brown fur that makes me want to snuggle her. She is about the size of a beagle, and is getting as much sleep as possible.
Welcome to the world, little cow!

Two days old and all sweetness

I think they should name her Bambi

Her mamma has been eating strong and is a bit confused, this is her first baby. She wasn't sure if to sit on her so the baby was removed for a few hours to nap. While the baby cow naps Caribella cries loudly for her.
Good job, Caribella! You made a lovely baby!
