Catskills Animal Sanctuary

Over last weekend, we had hankering to see the mountains and animals. So we decided to go up to NY state. In these parts there is a vast difference between New York and The City. You call New York where the country folk live, New York State. You call northern New York, where it is always cold, Upstate. You call Syracuse, Syracuse because it is somehow unique? And as for NYC you call it "The City" because it is the boss.

So we went to New York State to a wonderful place called the Catskills Animal Sanctuary.

This is a place where mass meat farm animals are rescued and brought back to health. They have saved over 3,000 animals from bad situations and given them a chance to enjoy a good life and sunshine. When we got there I was surprised to find chickens, pigs, goats and lots of cats roaming around freely. They were all very friendly.

Our tour had some animals that were very attached to us. One was a rooster who loved sneaking up behind you and clucking at his fullest like if the earth was ending.
Kentucky Fried...

I was scared of him, and all of the animals actually. Everyone thought they were endearing but I barely trust Fatty and Bentley, why should I trust a goat or a strange chicken?

The other animal that followed us everywhere was a goat who was very sweet. Again, I was hesitant around him and preferred not to pet the beast.

Our tour guide was vegan, go figure, and preached every step of the way about how terrible it is for animals to suffer in cages and to be eaten. And how more intelligent the pig was than a 3 year old child...right...She was out to make us feel guilty. So if a pregnant pig had ten piglets would it be smarter than me?

Probably so. It got a bit annoying. The more she talked the tastier the animals seemed.

Bacon.

Eggs.

Goat cheese.

Lamb. Better yet Greek Kelftiko

Steak.

Horse steak! (quite good with lemon)

Duck stew

Foi Gras. yummmmmm....

The animals were adorable and the place serene. I wish that there were places like this with the same intensity to get help for abused farmed children. The world puts its money in the wrong places.

Anyway, we had a great time, minus the preaching, and enjoyed a day in NY State.
